So here’s why the juxtapose of Boo Radley and Michael Myers, from my comment on a post in mid-September:
You know the ending of To Kill a Mockingbird, where Boo Radley kills Bob Ewell in order to save Scout and Jem from Ewell’s pedophiliac predations? Earlier we find out that Boo did something terrible as a child with a pair of scissors, that he’s been locked away ever since, that he’s widely regarded as a crazy man. At the end of the story he comes out and kills Bob Ewell, on Halloween night, with a kitchen carving knife. Now what John Carpenter character does that remind you of? On 31 October I think I’ll put up a post called Boo! with a screengrab of Robert Duvall as Boo Radley juxtaposed with a shot of Michael Myers.
And this morning I remembered to do it.
This month has been the busiest ever on Ktismatics: most visits, most page views. Thanks for stopping by.
I just got done watching the mockingbird film. I thought the same thing as I am a HUGE Michael Myers fan. Boo Radley does remind me A lot of Michael Myers. Boo doesn’t speak, he committed some type of murder(we assume) as a child with a pair of scissors, and he killed a man with a butcher knife on Halloween night. Sounds very similar to the Michael Myers story. I can see how John Carpenter could of easily skated off of this Boo Radley concept. I did read somewhere according to Carpenter, he got the idea for Michael Myers after visiting an insane asylum on a school field trip as a child.
Right? It doesn’t take anything away from Carpenter’s movie if he did borrow the character from Mockingbird and give him a twist. Boo Radley is a kind of avenging angel, the one person who actually makes something good happen, while holier-than-thou Atticus Finch is busy going through the official channels and worrying about his reputation. Michael Myers makes things happen too.
