Heterotopic Swarm

Filed under: Reflections — ktismatics @ 12:38 pm

Here I’ve been talking about luring people to Ktismatics via distribution of printed copies in a roving brochure stand, and what happens? Late last night I got 25 hits to this old post. Apparently somebody with a LiveJournal account put up this quote from my post:

I am attracted to… the non-site, the place of exile, the rupture in the time-space continuum, the outpost of the preposterous, the portal that punctuates the world like a black hole, the gateway to alternate realities.

The entire quote was written as a link to my post, and apparently this person has a host of curious readers. Who is this mysterious visitor, and what trail led him or her to Ktismatics? And the other 24: are they my doppelgängers, suddenly appearing out of nowhere because yesterday I wrote them into existence? Or are they reality travelers seeking asylum in some heterotopia buried deep in the blogosphere? Perhaps in due time something like truth will be revealed…

  1. Interesting. I re-checked out that old post, and it is in fact quite relevant to what I wrote on “the geometry of architecture and church”. Interesting…its almost a direct correlation, it seems…between the last term of my sylogism and the heterotopia.

  2. I thought maybe so too. The swarm is an omen?

  3. I just saw Dejan’s analysis in the post below and I want to be analysed immediately! What do I have to do? I’m so excited! I have to sleep right now but I’ll check back here tomorrow for directions.

  4. Yes L&T, I believe this can be arranged; I seem to have a few openings on my calendar. I will review your blog for background, but perhaps your recent exchange on Cultural Parody Center might serve as a good springboard. Or maybe you would prefer to state your question or problem directly? Perhaps we can begin as early as tomorrow, while the material remains fresh. Respond here SVP, and I’ll prepare the couch for Case Study 2.

  5. Hi Doctor, I don’t have an excuse in my delay getting back to you other than that I’ve had an extremely lazy day. This is related to my main problem that for the past six months I’ve been unable to make myself do the final bits of work involved in finishing my PhD thesis. I continually find ways to sabotage my progress, such as getting deeply involved in debates on the Internet, as well as using other people and things as ways of distracting me.

As I write this I think that maybe I should save this for my real counsellor because he knows a lot more about me, and again I’ve simply been lazy in not talking to him more regularly. Do you think that there’s a problem with this? Maybe in that case you can choose between different aspects of my online persona, such as my discussions at the Cultural Parody Centre, or some features of my blog, and we can discuss those.

  6. May I ask, is your plan to do this in real time? If so, you should know that I am on Australian Eastern Standard Time.

  7. Thanks L&T. The 50-minute hour does not hang on the wall here at Ktismatics. Our conversation will take place as it does on other blogs — intermittently, for however long it takes, with the constant possibility of interruption from either the “real” world or from other bloggers. I just woke up (Mountain Standard Time), whereas you’re probably asleep by now. So I’ll set up the session, so when you wake up you should already have a question or two from me to respond to.
